Transylvania

(in Romania)

Not worth it!

How this place changed my life  — 2 years ago

Although the Carpathian mountains are one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen the downtrodden, disillusioned, and disenfranchised Romanian people made my visit there too sad to deal with. I have family in Transyvania and seeing them live like that over there was heartbreaking. We encountered begging children at the train stations and I saw the saddest things I have ever seen in my life there. I truly hope that the people of Romania stand up to their government, as it seems like they have been doing since they stopped the communist party there… but it’s still not enough. It’s just too sad. I would never go back and, for the self-absorbed desire in me to see no evil, I wish I never would have gone at all.

I'm Sorry

Your reaction to Transylvania speaks volumes of your character. It would be difficult for a compassionate person to enjoy.

i know exactly what you mean. i’m from the transylvania area and i remember all my life it was very hard to live there. my family was one of the few families to have, well..anything really and its sad because we really didn’t have much at all either. i should’ve had a great life, but seeing people suffer so really changed it all. romania is still a 2nd world country but we are really trying to make things better. our president is a good man, and he’s trying to help but it will take quite some time. i think of all of the countries that were communist countries romania is having one of the worst times recovering. but the missionaries and other people who come out to romania from america, britain, france, etc. are really helping us.

i hope someday you will come back to transylvania, it will be better. please do not be too distressed…everyone will be ok.
