Every book you buy about Syria will tell you to visit Palmyra. Well, you shouldn’t. There are more places worth a visit than you’ll ever manage to cram in a visit. Don’t bother with the one place in Syria that has been ruined by tourists. Go to Jarmilla, go to Bosra, go to anywhere. There’s no denying the ruins are stunning, but the attitude of the locals sucks. Your time will be better spent in a non-touristic equally stunning but smaller place.
