News: Draw your neighborhood boundary on a map — 2 years ago

On neighborhood maps you can now draw and edit boundary lines. It’s pretty sweet. I just drew the neighborhood boundary for Capitol Hill in Seattle.

You’ll see a “create neighborhood boundary” link at the top of neighborhood map pages. Clik that to get started. A tip: when you’re setting points for drawing the boundary line you can always click “remove last point” to go back a pinpoint.

As an addendum, I never did get around to adding Genessee because it seemed odd to add it since my neighbors did not use it. Although I was going to add it anyway to list the businesses since there are actual signs for the business district (on bryon and alaska I believe). Since I live in a DMZ between Columbia City and Mt. Baker, perhaps peoples’ generic Rainier Valley thoughts are appropriate.

The next time I run through Genessee Park I should ask random people what they think. I wonder what the people who live near the water south of Genessee would say.

I’m easily influnenced – but when I drew the Mt Baker neighborhood – before Carrick overwrote me and swallowed up the other neighborhoods – I was leaving space for Genesee and Courtland Place. The Courtland Place people I’ve met (the area North of Darigold and Safeway, cut off from Mt Baker) are fiercely independent (I use to live on the border), and they sure don’t feel like they are part of Mt Baker. And Genesee BD is almost as large a land area as Mt Baker or Columbia City. The map we have in our office shows the borders around Dakota to the North and Alaska to the South, 48th to the East and Rainier on the West. That’s a good chunk of territory, and you are right that it isn’t Mt Baker.

I say add the neighborhood, then the businesses in the area and add some pictures. Let me know if you want some help – I’ve been meaning to check out the Chinese place on Genesee and Rainier forever.

So... what's the latest word on this?

I’m relatively new to the Mount Baker area (5 months), but as I’m checking in the places I’ve been to, I’d like to know how it’s arranged without duplicating places or “swallowing” neigborhoods -LOL!!

For me, everything was either Mount Baker or Columbia City, and Seward Park was way southeast. But to my surprise, for example, Genesee Park is split between the latter two and even crawls with an appendix towards Mount Baker Park!! And now, there also seems to be this Genesee District, Rainier Valley, and Courtland Place. So I’m confused :S

I helped out tracing the Columbia City and Seward Park Neighborhoods according to the City Clerk’s site. According to this, Genesee is in West Seattle —so all the places located in Genesee are in the wrong hierarchy—, and Rainier Valley seems to be a larger “borough”.

So, what will the standard be for these? Will it be the City Clerk? Or the Robots’ Office Seattle map? Or is the war still on? ;)
