Ko/h samet

This was the first beach I had been to where the sand actually squeaked under my feet! Perhaps this `phenomenon´ is somewhat normal, but for someone who doesn´t make it to the beach more that a couple times a year, it was pretty neat.

Ko Samet was just amazing—turquoise waters white sand, bungalow right next to the water, etc. etc. The only down-side is it´s often crowded because a lot of Thais (especially on the weekend) head over from Bangkok for vacation (I remember it being just a two hour bus ride). Nonetheless, if you just have just few days to `hit the beach´ in Thailand; i.e. not enough time to head down the ´elephant’s trunk,´ Ko Samet is a nice alternative.

This pic, was taken in the summer of 2002 where I was definitely the tannest (and laziest!) I have ever been - many, many hours were spent on the beach. :)

I was just there in summer 2002 too..How come I didn’t see you there? :D

Try Kho Pha-Ngan and Kho Phi Phi too, not so commericialised like other small islands ;)

I haven’t been to Ko Samet yet, but from what you described here does sound like the Kho Samui that I have been to, always crowded with people on the beaches, and they are mostly tourists.

So are you still looking this tanned? Great pic btw!

It was similar to Ko Samui (which I visited the year before) except smaller and the sand didn´t squeak under my feet.

I´ve heard wonderful things about Ko Phi Phi and Pha-Ngan but never made it… there is so much to see in Thailand !!

One of my favorite islands was a very small island – about a 30 minute boat ride from Krabi – I cannot remember the name of it and I have yet to find it on any maps I´ve checked (Rae Lae or something like that edit: after some searching, transliteration is actually Rai Ley). It was relatively uncommercialized… I only remember 3 hotels, 1 general store, and one could walk across the island in 5 minutes… but being in the Andaman Sea, it was hit quite hard by the 2004 tsunami. :-((

Yap, Yap, Thailand is one of my fav places to go for vacation too, it’s in fact one the top 3 fav vacation countries for Singaporeans too..We have budget airlines flying out there like every hourly..I would love to go back soon and have a piece of vacation again!

Another uncommercialised places called “Kao lak” I think, can’t remember the spelling too(but I remember the pronounciation)it was hit hard by the Tsunami too.

Will look out for this “Rae Lae” or “Rai Ley” too, only 3 hotels in that island huh, cool, now that’s really remote, hahaha, sounds like my type of island ;)
