Worth visiting!

Ko/h samet

This was the first beach I had been to where the sand actually squeaked under my feet! Perhaps this `phenomenon´ is somewhat normal, but for someone who doesn´t make it to the beach more that a couple times a year, it was pretty neat.

Ko Samet was just amazing—turquoise waters white sand, bungalow right next to the water, etc. etc. The only down-side is it´s often crowded because a lot of Thais (especially on the weekend) head over from Bangkok for vacation (I remember it being just a two hour bus ride). Nonetheless, if you just have just few days to `hit the beach´ in Thailand; i.e. not enough time to head down the ´elephant’s trunk,´ Ko Samet is a nice alternative.

This pic, was taken in the summer of 2002 where I was definitely the tannest (and laziest!) I have ever been - many, many hours were spent on the beach. :)

Hi can you remember the name of the beach / resort you were staying whenthis picture was taken , i myself have been to samet but it was nothing like this picture , when i went it was a bit stinky with flies everywhere but i am aware that different parts of the island have very different beaches. I am looking to return at xmas but this time i will have my 18mt old daughter with me and the beach you describe sounds perfect

many thanks in advance

Hi Claire,

Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the place I stayed – I do remember that a friend and I split the price of the room – which came to a mere $20US each (I think!).

Based on the position of my shadow, and that of the beach, I’d say I must’ve been in the North; i.e., Ao Noina, or Ao Klang:

Hope this helps! - things may have changed some though - this picture was taken in ‘02.
