The Edge

Worth visiting!

this place was great  — 1 year ago

I’m pretty sure this place is closed but for some reason the website is still up. The Edge was a great place to catch alternative and metal acts as it was small and parking was easy to find. I saw Marilyn Manson there before “The Beautiful People” when they used to decorate the stage with Lite Brite and a sofa for the kids to sit in. That’s the first time I ever jumped up on stage and I’ll never forget it. (Even if it was only to grab a setlist after it was over.)

Elizabeth Gamble Garden

Worth visiting!

free  — 2 years ago

The non-profit Elizabeth Gamble Garden is right in the middle of Palo Alto, a short walk from where I grew up. For free, you can wander through the beautifully maintained flower and vegetable gardens and inhale the scent of wisteria.

Stanford Theatre

Worth visiting!

interested in classic films?  — 2 years ago

this is the place to feed your classic film fetish. this theatre opened in 1925 and it’s your chance to hear the mighty wurlitzer theatre organ. it’s played before and after their 7:30 pm show! the packard foundation purchased the theatre in 1987 and restored it to its original condition.

oh, and it’s a bargain: the show is always a double feature and tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and young people (18 and under!) you can find their schedule here

Nora’s is a French style bistro. Very authentic cuisine and not very expensive. Their salad Nicoise and crepes are a great light meal.

Coupa Café

Worth visiting!

Coupa Café: Fabulous Venezuelan coffeehouse and cafe  — 2 years ago

538 Ramona St. in Palo Alto, California
http://www.coupacafe.com/

Located in a historic Spanish Colonial revival building in downtown Palo Alto, with excellent atmosphere. Their venezuelan coffees and chocolates are excellent. I would suggest trying a mocha, or one of their specialty hot chocolates, such as the Mayan style, with hot pepper. Yum.

They also serve traditional Venezuelan white cornmeal griddle cakes called “arepas,” with lots of different toppings, as well as crepes, salads, sandwiches, and pastas.

Best of all, they have free wireless (except on the weekends), and even some power outlets in the main room.

Great place to people watch…

Dude, we work in a garage. We don’t have Aeron chairs either. So not-dot-com! (Heh)

I work in the computer science laboratory, but the fun stuff happens on the first floor, where they keep the lasers.
