Sankt-Peterburg Wanderlust

Give yourself more than one day there! In fact when I went back for a second day they had sent some major works out on loan to another museum, and replaced them with other major works that had been sitting in their storage rooms!

I am excited.. there is a possibility that this coming spring I will be making a trip to St. Petersburg!! In the meantime I have to get reading a book about the Hermitage that my Professor reccomended.

Just an amazing collection of art and history.

except to say, it’s awesome. And one thing I’d like to note: the palace, the “warehouse” for the art, is as good as the collection. It’s incredible to see. The 3rd floor containing the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, was my favorite, but I really loved the gallery rooms themselves.

Comfortable shoes. Comfortable clothing.

Also, if you are disabled, there ARE lifts available in several parts of the building. Just ask.

I adore museums of Russia

I spent there a whole day and I wasn’t able to see all I wanted to .

We have made our plans for an escorted excursion into the Hermitage. Should be very exciting! I have a friend who is already gathering her list of what she wants me to buy in the gift shop.

We should be there in early July!! Our trip to Scandinavia and St. Petersburg begins in late June. I am really looking forward to seeing a bit of L’Hermitage, absorbing all that artwork. Should be a blast.

Unlikely ever to happen unless I get a regular salary some time soon:)
