Holland Village
Hi Marble2, sorry, there are just too many sites, and you will need to take your TIME to look for. What I did for you was typed “Holland Village, short term” and it came up with this
(This one is just one of the many sites)
I think you could continue to type accordingly to your desire and hopefully you are able to find a suitable one soon.
Also the Straits Times interactive site you found is not the same one I was talking about. I was referring to the “physical” paper. The Straits Times Interactive is created meant for overseas Singaporeans(or foreigners who care about Singapore news) so that they can still keep track of what’s going on back home. This site includes job classified ads too.
I figure the best way to find apt is to get a local paper, then look for an agent to help you look for the right apt.
Therefore when you arrive Singapore, first thing first is to pick up a local paper, “The Straits Times”, which you could do that at the airport or even on the plane(they give free all e time).
I don’t understand your question of fastest version of internet?? It’s not dial up so the speed of Broadband is all the same. Different countries have diff name for their internet system, so I supposed for Korea is ultra band.
You could look up at Starhub ..They are having special promotion for wireless access now. I just changed mine to wireless too..Anyway we going to be e first country in the world to go entirely wireless soon. OH they also have special package deal of wireless with digital phone line, that means you don’t need to hook up with any phone co and you could call from the computer system.
Starhub also having another attractive promotion of calling to a few countries including U.S., China, Hong Kong, Malaysia etc. FREE OF CHARGE from your mobile phone. You just need to pay for the LOCAL airtime. And normally if you sign up with the package, you will get certain amount of FREE local airtime. (Promotion starts from Jan 2006- Dec 2006)
Good luck to your apt searching!!
P.S. I think you can forget about looking up at Orchard area, it’s one of the most expensive area to live in Singapore :P

Great advice! This is extremely helpful. I’ve done some research on the colonial history of Singapore and it’s fascinating. I’m a big fan of city life, any recommendations on living right in or around downtown? It would seem from the discussion that the areas we’ve discussed are primarily suburban but I could be wrong.

Ahem, it’s a city state here ;) So the entire country is probably considered “downtown” =)
Our local version of downtown is usually a few busier area e.g. orchard and..but the foreigners always laugh at how all e places here look like downtown to them. You will see when you live here. Hard to explain to you esp if you are coming from a big country, e.g United States or Canada.
As to “living right”, you shouldn’t worry too much, you could see all kinds of races, and nationalities living here. Even if you see asian faces on the street, they could possibly be foreigners too.
I have seen Singapore been rated a few times as one of the top choices for expats to live in, if not the most fav place TO WORK and LIVE IN. You will see for yourself how easy is to fit in here. The ppl over here are generally friendly, accomodating, and easy going! And that’s the reason why some have come here and never went back home, and some have lived here for the last 20, 30 yrs!
Take care & Hope you enjoy your short stay here!! ;)
