While I disagree with the poster who says that SA isn’t a great place to live and recommends plastic, self-involved Dallas, overpriced, pseudo-hippie Austin, or hyper-industrialized, ultra-humid Houston, I do agree with him that having a job lined up in advance of moving would be a great idea. Of course, I think that’s a great idea no matter WHERE you move.

I wish I could help you by offering you the names of agencies in the area, but alas, that is not my field. I would suggest looking into the classifieds, yes, but also some employment agencies. Also consider freelance work. I have a friend who is a graphic designer in Dallas, and during times in between jobs, I know he has done freelance work to keep himself afloat.

It helps if your portfolio is digital, too, so you can search for jobs from a distance.
