Hi Starlett,

How very exciting! While I can’t tell you anything about AIMS or make any suggestions about living in Graz, I can tell you that you will be spending time in a city steeped in arts and culture.

On an all too brief visit to Graz, the 2003 “Cultural Capital of Europe”, I was impressed by the breadth and depth of the artistic venues and activities that were there. I’m confident that an excellent legacy remains for you to discover.

Starlett, you can expect to be inspired. The new art gallery (an organic, contemporary counterpoint to the city’s architectural heritage), interesting museums, restored heritage sites, a beautiful opera house, public art, churches, the historical downtown area, great coffee shops, friendly people, tasty cuisine, the excellent Austrian wines, Graz’s natural beauty and landscape, should all serve to enhance your experience. As a musician, this is food for your creativity and talent.

Have a marvelous time.

Auf Wiedersehen,

Thanks so much! I’m terribly excited, as this will also mark my first experience in Europe, to which I have always dreamed of travelling, and where now will have the opportunity to sing. Thanks so much for the response, it sounds a marvelous place!

Starlett,

Please don’t forget to let us know if you found Graz “Worth Visiting” and share your experiences at AIMS when you return. (I checked their website and – “WOW” – what an awesome opportunity for you!)

Cheers

Hi Starlett -

I’m going to Graz this summer 2006 as a pianist in AIMS, and I’m looking forward to it also! I was at the Schubert-Institut in Baden bei Wien, Austria, last summer with my singer (us pianists are so possessive;), and I went to Graz for a few days as a side trip. It is truly one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to – it has so much history, but is also full of modern influences (museums, the styriate festival, etc.) The Old town is amazing, and I enjoyed renting a bike and riding around. There are also some wonderful hiking opportunites in and around the area – hopefully we will get an opportunity to enjoy them!
Anyway, I’m sure I’ll meet you this year – all the best with your preparations,

Christina
