When you say a day and a night, are you just saying one full day? Or something more?

The Blue Lagoon is a must only because it’s basically paired with Keflavik airport, both being relatively far away from Reykjavik. I recommend going to the Lagoon before your departure if possible.. it’s a good way to relax into your flight. NOTE: it can still be near freezing and drizzly/flurrying even in June! However, the warm waters in cold air makes a nice complement to the typical summer swimming pool experience.

I’d bring an extra pair of swimming trunks and a small plastic or canvas bag to contain it. They will smell “egg-y” after your shower, since hot water in Iceland is geothermic, and so it has that sulfuric smell.

If you have one full day to spend, however, you definitely need to do a morning-to-evening tour of the Interior, hopefully visiting one of the desert glaciers. They pick you up at 8am where you’re staying in Reykjavik and bring you back by 7pm or so. The long days of June will give you the energy you need to enjoy it.

Sorry if my wording was weird. What I meant was I have a stop over on my way to Denmark. My flight lands around 6:30 am and I am staying over night until my next flight heading to Copenhagen around 1pm. So I have pretty much a full day and a little bit of the next morning to do some exploring.

Thank you for you suggestions, guys! Since I am there for such a short time I want to make sure I make the most of it!

Ok.. so here’s how you do it..

First of all you take off your bathing suit before showering! (this is not optional)

Secondly you wash properly. You should wash your hair, armpits, ass and genitals well before entering the pool. For a number of reasons I’d recommended you do so afterwards as well, though this is really up to you. In the case of the blue lagoon for example if you’ve gotten any of the the silica mud or white seawater into your hair it really shouldn’t be left in.

Now this may seem like a radical idea but the faucets and showers can also produce fresh cold water if one turns the magic knobs correctly. Indeed some say finishing a shower with cold water is good for your skin, hair and circulation! Armed with this knowledge one may rinse the bathing suit or even hand wash it a little before leaving! Winding it could also be a good idea…

In any case this terrible smell will go away once you wash the suit properly, but more importantly so will the thousands of germs you picked up there.
