thanks for the heads up, is there a Rick Steves guide for Rome, or just Italy in general?

There are tons of guides, but if you google italy message boards you will find tons of information. Also, buy tickets to museums before you go. The lines are hours long for those that buy them at the door.

We didn’t go to Pompeii, but we stayed at a bed and breakfast in Rome called Casa Franci. We had some friends recommend it to us and LOVED it! There were only 3 rooms, so you get excellent customer service. Francesca and Ceaser would recommend things to see and ways to go about getting around every day. It was WONDERFUL…and only a 8 minute walk to St. Peter’s square. Here’s the website, let us know if you have any other questions.
