Well, I’m not Australian, and didn’t work when I was there… but my advise is this.

Go to Scotland, I enjoyed it far more then England. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and very fun. Even if you don’t be sure to visit Bath in England.. touristy, but worth it.

For accommodation and work, contact some hostels.. often some will have a bed and job at the front desk for travelers. I stayed in a hostel in Edinburgh that I’m certain was run entirely by Australians. I’m sure this is something they have in England (I stayed with family so I didn’t use the hostels there).
