Well, from what I gathered when I was there, there were plenty of longer hikes. We did the South Bubble, which is about an hour, but in that central area there’s a couple longer hikes. We hiked part of the southern ridge of Cadillac Mountain, and I know you can hike the whole thing, which would take you at least 6 hours.
The whole island is easily accessible by bike, hiking, or busses, that take you from one spot to another, as well as into the cities and to the camping grounds. We camped for 3 nights and spent about 4 days, and had plenty to do.

Thank you to all the five of you for taking the time to answer my question. It was very helpful, because it has changed my view on the park: reding travel books here at home I got the impression that it was a place to merely drive through by car. But now I see that I can really go hiking and indeed enjoy two full days there – may be will find it too short…. Now I hope for good weather :-)
