Hi, Blue.

Jack’s is cool, if you’re looking to meet lots of foreign folks, who usually speak English.

Best bet ever for a great “in” to the city of Nanjing is to stop at Blowin’ In the Wind. It is a bar down the street from Jack’s (the small alleyway, past dorm on left and Gold & Silver restaurant [mmmmmm] on right – heineken sign lets you know it’s the right place). Meet the owner, Shelley. She’s great and I am pretty sure her English has improved since last I saw her. She will surely help you meet people who will show you places in Nanjing most “La-wi” have never seen. Truly. I won’t even tell you, just let those folks help you out and your trip will be a real adventure.

For a great vegetarian breakfast, check out the vendor lady in front of NanDa dorm, who makes the pancake wrap thingums. I have no idea what to call them, but they cost 50 mao and you will be full and energized until lunch. Eat Chinese Food in China!

Thanks for the info. I’m really excited to see Nanjing. I’ve eaten Chinese food for the past four months. I don’t know if it’s just Zhenjiang-style food, but it’s not my favorite ;)

Sorry, forgot you were already in the PRC. If you make it to Blowin’ in the Wind, there will undoubtedly be some folks there who can guide you in the right direction(s). Though I sought out as much local cuisine as possible, I know that friends of mine found other cuisine around the city when they were in the mood for something different. Wish I was there, too!
