Unfortunately, no :( Skyroom shut down a long time ago. There are quite a few of the other restaurants in that area still around though

Thank you for your kindness in replying. Aside from the Sky Room experience, I have many fond memories of Kolkata; e.g., ambling through the New Market, stopping by Nahoum’s for lemon tarts and getting lead on a wild goose chase by young would-be coolies, after telling them I was looking for tiger balm. A number of years ago, I heard that the New Market burned down. It was such an institution: I can only imagine it was rebuilt. I guess that’s a question actually! And if so, in the same neighborhood? Thanks again for answering.

A portion of New market was burned down, and has been rebuilt. However, a lot of the old New market (Actually the name is St. Hogg’s Market, if I am not mistaken ;) ) is very much around !

BTW, this (Puja) would be a GREAT time to visit Calcutta and enjoy the festivities and the charged up atmosphere :)

I appreciate all the info! Actually, I hope to go in the Spring. I suppose I’ll try to avoid Holi, so I won’t have to dodge paint. But if I keep procrastinating on making my travel arrangements, I just might end up there during Puja after all. What sights and sites do you most recommend?
