Aside from the Sky Room experience, I have many fond memories of Kolkata; e.g., ambling through the New Market, stopping by Nahoum’s for lemon tarts and getting lead on a wild goose chase by young would-be coolies, after telling them I was looking for tiger balm. A number of years ago, I heard that the New Market burned down. It was such an institution: I can only imagine it was rebuilt. I guess that’s a question actually! And if so, in the same neighborhood?
